CHATSWORTH ROUTS ECR, STAYS UNBEATEN CHATSWORTH 24, ECR 3.Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer Prom dates of the Chatsworth High baseball players got discouraging news Monday. The news isn't any better for anyone hoping to dethrone de·throne tr.v. de·throned, de·thron·ing, de·thrones 1. To remove from the throne; depose. 2. To remove from a prominent or powerful position. Chatsworth as City champion. The Chancellors extended their state-record winning streak Noun 1. winning streak - a streak of wins streak, run - an unbroken series of events; "had a streak of bad luck"; "Nicklaus had a run of birdies" to 42 games by defeating El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

The second-place Conquistadores had taken Chatsworth to extra innings Noun 1. extra innings - overtime play until one team is ahead at the end of an inning; e.g. baseball extra time, overtime - playing time beyond regulation, to break a tie earlier in the season and are a leading candidate to meet the Chancellors in the City final next month. But the way the Chancellors disposed of what was supposed to be their biggest remaining obstacle puts Chatsworth in good position for the program's first undefeated season. Chatsworth (27-0) is off to the best start in school history, but not everyone with ties to the team is happy about it. Players vowed before the season not to cut their hair until they lost a game, and that has created some unhappy prom dates as the big day approaches and the players' hair has grown long and bushy bush·y adj. bush·i·er, bush·i·est 1. Overgrown with bushes. 2. Thick and shaggy: a bushy head of hair. . ``Our girlfriends hate it,'' said senior catcher Mike Fernandez, who played a key role in extending the streak by going 3 for 4 with a home run, two doubles and five RBI RBI abbr. Baseball runs batted in Noun 1. rbi - a run that is the result of the batter's performance; "he had more than 100 rbi last season" run batted in . ``They're all complaining. And our moms, too. But we're holding our ground, we're not cutting it.'' El Camino Real pitchers were the ones who couldn't cut it Monday against a Chatsworth lineup in which all but one starter is batting at least .350. The Conquistadores (18-8, 8-3) entered the game with a 2.53 staff ERA, but were down 7-0 by the second inning, the first of three in which the Chancellors batted around. ECR ace Chad Boyd (5-2) lasted just 1 2/3 innings, surrendering seven runs on four hits, four walks and two hit batters. Chatsworth (27-0, 11-0) finished with 20 hits. Every starter scored multiple runs and contributed at least one hit. Leadoff hitter In baseball, a leadoff hitter is a batter who bats first in the lineup. Strategy Leadoff hitters must possess certain traits to be successful: they must reach base at a proficient rate and be able to steal bases. Willie Cabrera homered and doubled in a 3-for-3, four- RBI afternoon. Jason Dominguez had two doubles, a home run and four RBI. His freshman brother, Matt Dominguez Matt Dominguez (born June 27, 1978 in Georgetown, Texas, United States) is a top receiver for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. Matt attended Sam Houston State for college were he was the team's MVP twice and the school's first NCAA division I-AA , went 3 for 5 with five RBI to increase his school single-season-record RBI total to 55. Oliver Padre added a home run and a double for a lineup that produced 13 extra-base hits. The offensive output was the defending national champs' highest of the season and fell four runs short of a team record. Chatsworth, which moved up to No. 9 in this week's Baseball America national rankings, has scored in double figures in seven consecutive games, with 20 or more runs in three of the past four. ``I give all the credit to the hair,'' Jason Dominguez said. ``It's looking pretty shaggy, but I'm not cutting it, not until we lose.'' Jason Dominguez (8-0) held the Conquistadores to three hits in five innings before the game was called. Ryan Lavarnway hit a leadoff home run in the third for El Camino Real's first run, and J.P. Hollywood and Casey Greene drove in runs in the fourth. Of Chatsworth's four remaining regular-season games, only one is against a team with a winning record, and all are against teams the Chancellors have mercy-rule victories against this season. ``We can appreciate what we've done,'' Fernandez said. ``But we try not to focus on the streak. ... We've just got to keep playing the same way we are now and not let up, because we want a City title.''
