CHATSWORTH DOWN IN VOLLEYBALL DRAW.

Byline: Chris Cocoles Staff Writer

Head-to-head competition wasn't an ally to the Chatsworth High girls' volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. The Chancellors (13-0), ranked No. 6 by the Daily News, drew the fourth seed in the City bracket In programming, brackets (the [ and ] characters) are used to enclose numbers and subscripts. A mild surprise was the second seed. Sylmar was awarded that spot despite being swept by Chatsworth in a preseason match.

Both teams won their respective leagues with unbeaten records, and among the top criteria determining seeding was head-to-head performances in non-tournament situations.

Sylmar (12-1) coach Bob Thomson Robert 'Bob' Thomson was an English footballer who played during the early 20th century, mainly prior to World War I.

Playing as a forward, Thomson carved out a career in the game despite having only one eye, resulting from a childhood accident with a firework.
and Chatsworth coach Bud Dow agreed the formula they believed would pair up the teams wasn't utilized, considering where each school was seeded. ``I thought we should have been one spot below them,'' Thomson said of the Chancellors. ``Chatsworth beat us.''

Dow declined to comment publicly on the decision. And he might have a reason to be steamed. Chatsworth has a brutal half of the draw.

If they can get past Huntington Park Huntington Park, city (1990 pop. 56,065), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a residential and industrial suburb of Los Angeles; founded 1856, inc. 1906. And top-seeded Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  could come next in the semifinals. Taft, runner-up to Chatsworth in the West Valley League, got good news and bad news.

The Toreadors were voted in as the eighth seed, meaning they'll host San Pedro on Monday. But a win means a probable second-round matchup with No. 1 Palisades, which drew Van Nuys in the first round.

North Hollywood, seeded 10th, travels to Fremont in a first-round match. No. 14 Monroe opens at third-seeded Narbonne.
