 CHASE NAMES SPAULDING TO HEAD CALIFORNIA PRIVATE BANKING,
 TRUST AND INVESTMENT BUSINESS
 SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Stephen V.R. Spaulding, III, has been named president of The Chase Manhattan Trust Company of California, N.A., which has offices here and in Los Angeles.
 As such, he will be responsible for coordinating all marketing, sales, credit, trust and investment activities in California for Chase Manhattan's West Coast private banking and trust business.
 Mr. Spaulding's banking career spans 30 years. He joined Chase from Bank of America NT&SA in San Francisco, where he was senior vice president and manager of the U.S. Private Banking Division.
 Deborah L. Talbot, head of U.S. private banking at Chase and a senior vice president of The Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A., said, "With his extensive experience and reputation in banking and investment sales in California, we have, in Steve Spaulding, an outstanding leader for our high net worth business in the state."
 Mr. Spaulding, 55, joined Bank of America in 1984, was named director of the San Francisco Private Banking office the same year, and was appointed senior vice president and division manager in 1987.
 Mr. Spaulding's California banking background also includes eight years with San Francisco-based Crocker National Bank in corporate lending and marketing management positions.
 At Crocker, he was vice president and manager for the North American Area of the International Division from 1975 to 1979; and senior vice president and manager for the Financial Institutions Department of the Corporate Banking Division from 1979 to 1983.
 He also was chief financial officer for Investment Mortgage International in San Francisco from 1983 to 1984.
 Mr. Spaulding's international banking experience includes 12 years with Citibank, primarily in the Asian marketplace.
 He was president of Citibank's Edge Act subsidiary in Los Angeles form 1970 to 1975; and served in management capacities in branches in Pakistan, Singapore and the Philippines from 1964 to 1970. He joined Citibank as a trainee in 1962.
 Mr. Spaulding was graduated in 1962 from the University of Buffalo (N.Y.) with a B.S. degree in business administration. He also pursued graduate business studies at New York University and participated in the Harvard Business School's Management Development program in 1976.
 Active in civic affairs, Mr. Spaulding is a trustee of the San Francisco Zoological Society and is an active fund-raiser for a number of Bay area non-profit and educational organizations. He also is a member of the Bankers Club in San Francisco and the Burlingame Country Club in Hillsborough.
 Mr. Spaulding is a past member of the executive committee of the American Bankers Association's Private Banking Group, Trust Services Division. He is a native of Buffalo, N.Y.
