History The school originally opened in 1975 as a merger of two neighbouring schools, Redcar Lane Secondary Modern (always called "Warwick Road") and in Redcar, said: "The idea to climb Roseberry Topping was Rebecca's godmother Angela Thompson who set the ball rolling with her colleagues from Drive Vauxhall at Redcar. "Then it just snowballed with all of our friends joining in. It was a fantastic day and we were very touched with effort that people had put in." Gemma and Michael's brother-in-law Matthew Wain, 32, also got in on the fundraising act by walking all the way from his home in York to Ingleby Barwick. "Matthew wanted to do something a bit different and he certainly did," said Gemma. "He set off at 5.15am and got to our house at 7.30pm. When he got to Thirsk it started raining so he was very wet.
