It hasn't been a large, overwhelming impact. We're always hurting, we never have enough. Anytime we're down, it's not a good sign.'' Adele Guzman, who has managed the City of Hope thrift store for 30 years, said an increase in yard sales and a decrease in donations from such stores as Kmart have left their mark. Other agencies say the war with Iraq and the poor economy have caused residents to hold off on new purchases and the recycling of used stuff.
