CHANGING OF THE BRASS AT TWO LOCAL RESTAURANTS; GREENSBORO GETS ANOTHER HAM'S

GREENSBORO, N.C., March 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Ham's Restaurants announced their second location here today with the acquisition of J. Butler's Bar and Grille in the Brassfield Shopping Center on North Battleground Avenue.
Ham's, a stalwart on the Greensboro restaurant scene since the 1930s, has acquired the assets and employees of J. Butler's and will open its second Greensboro store in late April.
Ham's owner and CEO Charles Erwin explained the transition: "I've been associated with Dale and Jane Britt, owners of J. Butler's, for years, and I've been watching and wanting their location in Brassfield. Ham's is in an expansion mode, and the Britts wanted to concentrate on their High Point and Archdale restaurants, so the timing is perfect."
 J. Butler's is a 3,200-square-foot, 180-seat upscale restaurant that opened in late 1991. The original store opened in 1987 in High Point.
"This is a win-win situation," said Jane Britt, co-owner and operations manager of the three J. Butler's. "We want to pay greater attention to our hometown restaurants, and Ham's wants the Brassfield location. Both restaurants are very excited and happy about this deal."
Ham's was purchased by Erwin in 1984 and has expanded under his ownership to single restaurants in High Point, Salisbury, Statesville, Chapel Hill, Burlington and Hickory. The approximately 60-year-old original Ham's, located on Friendly Avenue, is one of Piedmont North Carolina's most recognized eateries and landmarks.
"Not a day goes by that someone doesn't tell me of a fond memory about Ham's," commented Erwin. "The stories are as old as the restaurant and as diversified as our clientele."
Ham's serves three meals daily to a complete cross section of local customers. The menu features homemade soups, salads and sandwiches under $6.00 and is highlighted with Ham's signature items, homemade potato chips, and large steak fries.
 J. Butler's will honor this amicable transition for the remainder of March by offering special prices and impromptu parties for its customers.
Ham's will begin remodeling and employee training on March 29.
