CHANGE IS EMPHASIZED AT C.V. HIGH-SCORING COUGARS BULK UP ON DEFENSE.

Byline: Erik Boal Special to the Daily News

During his tenure as football coach at Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  High of La Crescenta, Alan Eberhart has been blessed with several offensive standouts.

Whether it was through Hudson Gossard, Phillip Salazar or Scott Vossmeyer at quarterback, Derrel Furutani, Jason Hogan or Kenny Pritchett at running back, or Dan Moody Daniel James Moody, Jr. (June 1, 1893–May 22, 1966) was a U.S. political figure and Democrat. He served as the governor of Texas between 1927 and 1931, and is best remembered in Texas history as a reformer and an opponent of the Ku Klux Klan.  and Nigel Orozco at receiver, the Falcons never have had difficulty finding the end zone.

C.V. averaged 36.8 points per game last season against Pacific League competition and shared the league title with Arcadia and Muir of Pasadena.

The Falcons scored five more touchdowns in the first round of the Southern Section Div. III playoffs, but their Achilles' heel all season had been an inability to stop the run, and St. Paul St. Paul

Such a humbling experience forced Eberhart to reevaluate how C.V. could better use its personnel and put more emphasis on defense for the 2005 season.

``We had our own fantasy draft. I got the first two picks, and (defensive coordinator A defensive coordinator typically refers to a coach on a football team in the National Football League or college football who is in charge of the defense. ``The last two years, we weren't able to stop the run. We might have thought we could, but we didn't. This year, I think we can.''

Chris Craig, Parker Haleen, Shawn Horwith and Kurtis Matejka provide strong support in the secondary, where Hardyment might also see time at safety.

Eberhart, after enduring frustration as defensive coordinator last season, has taken charge of the offense this year, something he hasn't done since 1994.

``It rejuvenates me to be able to coach the offense,'' said Eberhart, whose previous offensive coordinator An offensive coordinator typically refers to the coach on a football team in the National Football League or College football who is in charge of the offense. ``Muir is big and athletic, like always, and they'll be as good as they've been in years,'' Eberhart said. ``With Bailey, Arcadia is a very good team. Without him, they're very average. If we can play for a game that means the Pacific League championship, then you hope your seniors say that's their moment, and they go after it.''
