CHAMPS PULL OUT VICTORY CHATSWORTH 6, ECR 4.

Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer

Mike Fernandez is getting used to the significant changes with the Chatsworth High baseball team this season. Not only are several of his teammates from last season gone, but the senior is starting at catcher instead of third base for the first time in his varsity career.

Fernandez made sure he didn't have to get used to another change Tuesday as he maintained the defending national champion Chancellors' status as the team to beat. Fernandez singled in the deciding run in the eighth inning in·ning

Fernandez finished 3 for 3.

``This is a big win for us,'' Fernandez said. ``This is one of the biggest games of the year for us. They're a good team and it's always good to beat them.

``We've heard a few things that we're not going to be as good this year. We're just going out there and trying to show we're as good as before.''

The Chancellors (9-0, 1-0) moved up to No. 18 in this week's national rankings, but claiming an early spot atop the league standings did not come easily.
