CHAMPIONS AT LAST: IT'S NO TRICK: PALMDALE GETS ITS REVENGE AGAINST A.V. PALMDALE 20, A.V. 15.

Byline: Ross Siler Staff Writer

PALMDALE - The Palmdale High football team had every excuse to pack it in Friday night when fifth-ranked Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
of Lancaster pulled off an improbable end-around touchdown pass on a third-and-18 play to take the lead midway through the fourth quarter.

One Falcons assistant shattered his clipboard on the sideline after watching the sequence unfold, and the home fans fell silent. But after waiting nearly a year to avenge two gut-wrenching losses to A.V. the past two seasons, the Palmdale players would not go down without a fight.

So, Palmdale senior quarterback Jacob McCravey walked into to his team's huddle and told everyone to keep their composure. And McCravey proceeded to march the Falcons 71 yards downfield down·field

We waited 11 months for it. I think the streak ended tonight.''

The Falcons also ended a bid by seven A.V. seniors to finish their careers 20-0 in league play.

Palmdale (9-1, 4-1) had lost to A.V. by a combined 16 points the past two years, but the Falcons would not be deterred Friday. On the final drive, McCravey scrambled for a first down on a crucial fourth-and-1 from the 44. He then split two defenders on a pass to JaVonte Holmes at the goal line.

Edwards followed by plowing in for the go-ahead touchdown and the celebration was on for Palmdale's players, coaches and parents. Coach Jeff Williams For the poker player, see .

``This is the hugest win for me ever,'' McCravey said. ``I've been losing to them since I was a freshman.''

A.V. (8-2, 4-1) had clinched a share of the league title last week and appeared to have won it outright when coach Brent Newcomb called for the reverse pass with his team trailing by seven with just more than six minutes left.

On the play, quarterback Johnny Walker took the pitch and flipped the ball to wide receiver Juan Rayford, who appeared trapped for another big loss. But Rayford cocked his arms and spotted Eric Wickliffe alone behind the defense as diagramed.
