RAFAEL NADAL “Nadal” redirects here. For other people named Nadal, see Nadal (disambiguation).
Rafael Nadal Parera (IPA: [rafa'el na'ðal]) (born June 3, 1986, in Manacor, Mallorca) is a Spanish professional tennis player.
pulled out of Wimbledon last night after losing his battle of wounded knees - as Andy Murray was handed a dream draw.

Spanish heart-throb Nadal, suffering from chronic tendinitis, became only the fourth men's singles champion in history not to defend his title after conceding he was not fit.

But Nadal denied he was a champion quitting on hstool instead of being carried out on his shield, saying: "Nobody is more disappointed than me, but I could not carry on. This is a very painful decision for me, and one of the toughest of my career.

"But I worked very hard to try and be ready to play at Wimbledon and I want to come back when I am ready to win here again.

"I have been playing with a problem in both knees for a few months now, and week after week I have tried to carry on. But it has reached a stage now where I need to rest." Nadal's withdrawal gave 22- year-old Murray even more reason to believe he will end Britain's 73-year wait for a men's singles champion at SW19.
