dominated Rio Mesa in the championship game of its own tournament, all one needed to know was that everybody who put on an Eagles uniform played.

There were 14 in all; 12 of them scored. Chaminade won 67-48 Friday.

``We've got a lot of weapons,'' Chaminade coach Jeff Young

It likely wasn't very amusing for the Spartans, who were at a significant size disadvantage.

Rio Mesa's tallest player was Issac Romero at 6-3. He was lost among the Eagles inside height, which includes four players 6-5 or taller.

Chaminade (6-1) opened a 24-8 lead after one quarter and stretched it in the second quarter to nearly 30 points. A flourish at the end of the quarter by the Spartans kept it under 20 points at 40-22.

The Eagles continued to pound away inside on the Spartans in the third quarter, and when they weren't dominating inside, 6-6 Justin Beach was hitting 3-point shots on the wing.

``Justin shot the ball well,'' Young said. ``I know when Justin is Justin I, c.450–527, Byzantine emperor (518–27); successor of Anastasius I. He was chief of the imperial guard and became emperor when Anastasius died. Justin persecuted the Monophysites and maintained close relations with the Western Church.  open out there, it's going up.''

Beach led the way with 16 points in about 16 minutes of play. Justin Borchart, a 6-7 freshman who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, had 11 points and nine rebounds. Junior point guard Cayce Cook had eight points, six assists and four steals. None of the three played in the fourth quarter.

A big lead, which reached 29 points at 62-33, allowed Young to get a look at everyone.

``We don't drop off a whole lot,'' Young said. ``That's one of the toughest things I'm dealing with (spreading around quality minutes).''

``If we can hold teams to under 50 points,'' he said, ``we'll be able to win a lot of games.''

The defensive play throughout the tournament for the Eagles was superb. In fact, the team was awarded the most valuable defensive player award, typically reserved for an individual.
