``It's huge,'' Stewart said of the victory. ``I've been on varsity three years and this is the biggest win in my career.''

It wasn't just that Stewart made the winning shot, it was how he did it. With the score tied at 60-60, Chaminade held the ball for the final 42 seconds.

Scott Long drove to the basket with less than 10 seconds left and just missed a short shot. The ball came off the rim and Stewart grabbed it amid a crowd, as Bishop Montgomery's Solomon Hughes (6-10) and Lamar Lawrence (6-6) stood nearby.

Stewart quickly put the ball up before either of the taller players could block it, and laid it in the basket.

``I couldn't have made a better scenario for a TV show,'' Chaminade coach Jeff Young

Bishop Montgomery called timeout with one second left, but Stewart intercepted a long pass to ensure the victory.

``I was just waiting if the ball came off the rim. I just came up strong with it,'' Stewart said. ``I didn't care if they were near me.''

The final seconds culminated an impressive second half for the Eagles (19-7). They trailed 34-25 less than two minutes into the third quarter, and appeared ready to wilt against the talented Knights (20-5).

But Chaminade went on a 29-12 run led by Long (a team-high 20 points) and took a 54-46 lead with 3:47 remaining. The Eagles kept their lead until Marvin Perez hit a 3-pointer with 42 seconds left that tied the game.

The Eagles' victory was unlikely for several reasons: They played a team with two future Division I college players. Hughes (22 points) has signed to play at Tulane and guard Delano D'Oyen (15 points) will attend Santa Clara Santa Clara, city, Cuba

They were also playing a team that had reached the Division II Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  regional championship last year and lost only once at home this season.

But none of it mattered Friday as the Eagles used a well-balanced effort to overcome the Knights' size advantage. Besides Long, Stewart finished with 12 points, Brett Brownson and Cayce Cook had nine and Mike Kokorowski added eight.

It was a big win for Young, the youthful Chaminade coach who has begun to build the Eagles into a West Valley power.
