CHAMINADE CHOOSES GUBICZA AS COACH.

    Mark Steven Gubicza (born August 14 1962 in Trenton,New Jersey was a Major League Baseball pitcher for 14 seasons for the Kansas City Royals (1984-96) and Anaheim Angels (1997). He currently coaches at Chaminade College Preparatory in West Hills, CA.
     was named the baseball coach at Chaminade High of West Hills on Thursday. Gubicza, who played 12 years with the Royals before finishing his career with the Anaheim Angels in 1997, replaces Scott Drootin, who stepped down three weeks ago after five years with the Eagles.

    Gubicza, who resides in Porter Ranch ranch, large farm devoted chiefly to raising and breeding cattle, horses, sheep, and goats. The cattle ranch was introduced from Latin America to Texas and the plains of the W United States and Canada.  and is a baseball analyst for Fox Sports Net and Fox Sports Radio Fox Sports Radio, abbreviated FSR, is an international radio network consisting of sports talk programming all day, every day. The network is a service of Premiere Radio Networks (a subsidiary of Clear Channel Communications). , coached a Northridge Little League team to the AA Minor League championship this year and was recently an assistant for a highly successful 14-year old travel team this summer.

    ``I know the important role coaches play in the lives of young athletes - especially now that I have kids of my own,'' Gubicza said. ``I see coaching at Chaminade as a great opportunity to not only teach the game I love but develop the decision-making decision-making,

    Although Gubicza will continue his role with Fox next season, Chaminade athletic director Athletic director (commonly, "athletics director") is a position at many American colleges and universities, as well as in larger high schools and middle schools, which oversees the work of the coaches and related staff involved in intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic  Joe Shapiro is not concerned it will interfere with his coaching responsibilities.

    There was immediate mutual interest between Chaminade and Gubicza once Drootin stepped down.

    ``Once contact was made, it was just a matter of working out the details to make this fit into his schedule and ours,'' Shapiro said. ``I was immediately struck by his character and integrity, both in life and on the field. That made him an ideal fit for Chaminade.''

    With the Royals, Gubicza was selected to the All-Star team in 1988 and 1989 and was a member of the Royals' World Series team in 1985. He won 20 games in 1988.
