CHAMBERS OPENS NEW LANDFILL IN MARYLAND

CHAMBERS OPENS NEW LANDFILL IN MARYLAND
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Chambers of Maryland, Inc., a

subsidiary of Chambers Development Company, Inc., of Pittsburgh (AMEX: CDVA, CDVB) reported today that its new state-of-the-art Mountainview Sanitary Landfill in Allegany County, Md., is open and fully operational.
It marks the company's first solid waste operation in Maryland, and is the first ever privately owned disposal facility to be permitted in the state. It is the only high-tech, synthetically lined landfill in Maryland.
Alexander W. Rangos, Chamber's chief operating officer, said, "We are extremely proud of this facility, the newest in our system of landfills that are providing environmentally sound waste disposal. This regional landfill has been designed to bring to the state of Maryland a tremendous advance in solid waste disposal technology that will provide needed refuse capacity to Maryland citizens."
Chambers began accepting refuse today on a double-composite liner system comprised of two separate HDPE synthetic liners, one underlain by bentonite matting, and the other underlain by compacted clays, making it the most technically advanced landfill in the state. Approximately 40 acres are currently permitted for landfill use within an overall site of 400 acres that provides for signficant expansion capacity.
The development of this facility began when a contract was awarded to Chambers in 1987 by the Allegany County Board of Commissioners to provide solid waste disposal to the county for a minimum of 20 years.
The project has included, among other facilities and improvements, the construction of a leachate collection, storage and pre-treatment system, an enclosed citizens drop box area and an expansion of the public highway near the site.
The security measures at this facility will include a combination of sophisticated electronic and manual security systems to prevent any illegal dumping and are similar to those implemented at Chambers' 16 other landfills across the country.
Chambers Development Company, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, is a leading environmental firm offering services in landfill development, transfer station operation and recycling, as well as the collection, transportation and disposal of residential, commercial and non-hazardous industrial and medical solid wastes.
