CHAMBERS FINDING HER WAY JUST FINE.

Byline: Sandra Barrera Staff Writer

Kasey Chambers was more confident about ``Wayward Angel,'' her new album, than she was her 2002 breakthrough release.

That album, ``Barricades and Brickwalls,'' which Billboard said ``bursts with passionate songwriting and a singing voice fraught with emotion,'' was also full of insecurity.

So says Chambers, who will be supporting her new album tonight at the El Rey El Rey, which means "The King" in the Spanish language, may refer to:
  • in Spanish daily life, King Juan Carlos.
  • El Rey Theatre, a live music venue in Los Angeles, California.
  • El Rey Chocolates, a Venezuelan chocolatier established in 1927.
. And while insecurity is still an issue in her songwriting, it's more fleeting for the 28-year-old alt-country singer.

``There's something else swallowing up my whole life now,'' Chambers says.

She, of course, is talking about Talon, her 2-year-old son - with whom she was pregnant the last time she toured the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. But they were also drawn to her colorful past.

Chambers spent the first 10 years of her life crisscrossing the Australian Outback with her family. Her father was a fox hunter back then.

But that's where having a baby changed Chambers.

``This little thing that I was all of a sudden holding in my hands went straight to the top of my priority list,'' she says. ``It's such a natural progression. Just having something much bigger to think about makes what I do a little easier, and I guess that side of it comes out in my writing.''
