CHAMBERS DEVELOPMENT COMPANY ANNOUNCES COURT ACTION

CHAMBERS DEVELOPMENT COMPANY ANNOUNCES COURT ACTION
PITTSBURGH, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Chambers Development Company, Inc. (AMEX: CDVA, CDVB) today announced that the Tennessee Court of Appeals, Eastern Section, issued an order reversing a lower court order which had enjoined development of a sanitary landfill in Anderson County, Tenn., by Remote Landfill Services, Inc.
In February 1990, Chambers entered into an agreement to acquire Remote Landfill pending the successful resolution of this issue.
The court held that Remote Landfill had complied with all necessary local approvals for the siting of a sanitary landfill, and awarded costs of the appeal to Remote Landfill.
In the event no further appeals are filed, Chambers expects to proceed with the closing of the acquisition and to begin construction-related activities at the site.
The 135-acre solid waste landfill will be located on a 260-acre site in Anderson County, and is approximately 25 miles west of Knoxville, Tenn. This greenfield landfill will be constructed using modern technology, employing a double synthetic liner over a two-foot clay base.
The Anderson County facility is the first landfill permitted under Tennessee's new solid waste regulations.
Alexander Rangos, Chamber's chief operating officer, said the landfill represents an important opportunity for Chambers to enter a new market area and an important step in the company's strategy to offer services in major markets.
"This new landfill complements our plans for regional disposal systems that will provide long-term, environmentally secure solid waste disposal to Tennessee residents," Rangos said, adding that the facility will have more than 26 million cubic yards of airspace for waste. The landfill marks Chambers first activity in Tennessee.
Chambers Development Company, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, is a leading environmental firm offering services in recycling, transfer station operation and landfill development, as well as the collection, transportation and disposal of residential, commercial, non-hazardous industrial and medical solid wastes.
Chambers provides security services through its wholly owned subsidiary, Security Bureau, Inc., the 10th largest U.S. security firm.
