Malmquist, executive director of the Agoura Chamber of Commerce, was pleased with the attendance the first year, but hopes even more folks will come this year.

``We had around 1,500 people attend, and about a dozen cooks,'' she said. ``We're hoping for a bigger turnout and twice as many cooks.''

The event is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, Pacific Bell, K-Lite (KMLT-FM 92.7) and Budweiser.

It also is sanctioned by the International Chili Society, and is considered a district competition. Cash and prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners.

The cook-off will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and free for children under 10.

``There are a lot of great chili cooks out there that would have a lot of fun cooking at our event,'' Malmquist said. ``I hope they get some friends or family together and decide to compete.''

For additional information, or to register for the competition, call the Agoura chamber at (818) 889-3150.
