The Moorpark resident said that while the relationship has gotten better, there is work still to be done.

``Businesses are a very important part of a working community because they provide the tax base and without that tax base we don't have the services that make the city run,'' she said.

She said the 250-member chamber works as a liaison between the city and the business community, ensuring that each is doing all it can to make the community stronger. The city uses it to let businesses know how to comply with its rules and regulations, and the businesses use it to let the city know what it can do to help them thrive.

McGee also said a good relationship with the local school district is a third element to a community's success.

McGee became involved with the chamber in 1991 and has served on the board, most recently as its vice president of internal operations, since 1995.
