The Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by  Chamber of Commerce is getting back into the community event business with plans to sponsor an Independence Day Festival at the Janss Marketplace.

Terry Greenberg, interim chief executive officer for the chamber, said the Fourth of July Fourth of July, Independence Day, or July Fourth, U.S. holiday, commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Celebration of it began during the American Revolution.  celebration will serve as a fund-raiser to keep the chamber's $500,000 budget in shape.

 Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce sponsored the city's annual western gala, the 10-day Conejo Valley Days festival. Two years ago the chamber turned over the event, which raises money for more than 30 local nonprofit groups, to a coalition of those groups. Chamber officials said the event had grown too large for them to manage.

Greenberg, who's been on the job for a month since Steve Rubenstein announced his resignation as head of the chamber, said the Fourth of July festival will be a smaller event designed specifically to become an annual fund-raiser.

``I can't speak for why we're not in Conejo Valley Days any more. I wasn't at the chamber then,'' he said.

Nancy Lynch Nancy Lynch is a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is the NEC Professor of Software Science and Engineering in the EECS department and heads the Theory of Distributed Systems research group at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. , a chamber staff member who is coordinating the event, said details are still being worked out with the city on how many people will be able to participate, as well as other details.

The event is scheduled to take place from noon to 10 p.m. on the top floor of the Janss Marketplace's parking garage. The garage sits in the shadow of Fireworks fireworks: see pyrotechnics.

Businesses or artisans wanting to take part can rent booths for $35 if they are chamber members, plus 10 percent of the day's sales. Food booths are available to chamber members for $50, plus 25 percent of food-item sales.

Nonmembers will be charged $50, plus 10 percent of sales and $75, plus 30 percent of sales, for the same booths.

GETTING INVOLVED Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce is renting booth space to businesses and artisans for a chamber-sponsored Fourth of July festival. For more information, contact Nancy Lynch at the chamber (805) 499-1993.
