CHALLENGERS LOSE BIDS FOR AREA WATER BOARD : INCUMBENTS UNITED ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES.

Byline: Daily News

A team of challengers united by their ties to local environmental issues failed to shake the incumbents from their three seats on the Castaic Lake Castaic Lake is a lake on Castaic Creek formed by Castaic Dam, in northwestern Los Angeles County, California, near the town of Castaic. The 323,700 acre foot lake (399,000,000 m³) is the terminus of the West Branch of the California Aqueduct, though some comes from the 154 mi²  Water Agency's board.

Final election results tallied Wednesday showed incumbent board members Bill Cooper, Jerry Gladbach and Jim Gates soundly defeating challengers Joan Dunn, Lynne Plambeck and Merry Farmer in Divisions 1, 2 and 3.

The challengers' charges of poor fiscal management apparently went unheard by voters, who in the case of Gates vs. Farmer, favored the incumbent with more than two-thirds of the vote. Gladbach vs. Plambeck was similarly a landslide landslide, rapid slipping of a mass of earth or rock from a higher elevation to a lower level under the influence of gravity and water lubrication. More specifically, rockslides are the rapid downhill movement of large masses of rock with little or no hydraulic flow, .

Cooper vs. Dunn was the closest race, with Cooper winning only 19 percent more of the vote than his challenger.
