CFP Board Announces 2008 Financial Planning Grants Program.

Evaluating the investing and financing options available to a firm. Planning includes attempting to make optimal decisions, projecting the consequences of these decisions for the firm in the form of a financial plan, and then comparing future performance against

CFP Board provides grants to sustainable projects that promote an understanding of the benefits of financial planning and provide underserved populations with access to competent and ethical financial planning. Since 2006, when CFP Board introduced the Financial Planning Grants program, CFP Board has awarded more than $1,331,000 to 28 innovative projects that are reaching people with the benefits of financial planning.

Grant recipients have included non-profit organizations A non-profit organization (abbreviated "NPO", also "non-profit" or "not-for-profit") is a legally constituted organization whose primary objective is to support or to actively engage in activities of public or private interest without any commercial or monetary profit purposes. , educators and CFP([R]) professionals involved in a wide variety of activities, ranging from developing new uses of technology that provide access to financial planning to creating partnerships that provide financial planning information and assistance through educational institutions and community-based organizations. Information about programs that received grant funding in 2006 and 2007 is available on CFP Board's Web site at www.CFP.net/teamup/2006grants.asp and www.CFP.net/teamup/2007grants.asp.

The 2008 Financial Planning Grants program is intended to provide grant funding to a new set of projects. CFP Board will not be involved in the operation of any grant-funded project but will require reports that help it evaluate each project's effectiveness. Eligible projects may include proposals to develop new programs or proposals to enhance programs that already exist, but the requested grant money must fund a project that furthers CFP Board's mission.

Additional requirements for the 2008 Financial Planning Grants program and an online application form are available on CFP Board's Web site at www.CFP.net/teamup/grants.asp. Grant applications must be received at CFP Board no later than April 30, 2008.

(CFP Board) is to benefit the public by granting the CFP([R]) certification and upholding it as the recognized standard of excellence for personal financial planning.
