CFFR Believes Decision to Remove Prop 77 from the Ballot Should Be Appealed Immediately.LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. -- The following is a statement by Bill Mundell, Chairman of Californians for Fair Redistricting redistricting: see legislative apportionment. (CFFR CFFR Consolidated Federal Funds Report ): "The decision to remove Proposition 77, The Voter Empowerment Act, from the ballot of the November special election is completely unprecedented. The people of California will demand an immediate appeal. "Proposition 77 is backed by over a million supporters who will not stand by and see their desire to return fair elections to this state blocked by a collection of political professionals only concerned with preserving their protected districts. "This bold attempt to hijack the democratic process based on inconsequential differences must be met head on in court. I want to know why it is that the Attorney General never used his office to defend the millions of people who were disenfranchised in the disgraceful gerrymandering gerrymandering Drawing of electoral district lines in a way that gives advantage to a particular political party. The practice is named after Massachusetts Gov. Elbridge Gerry, who submitted to the state senate a redistricting plan that would have concentrated the voting of 2001. Where was he then? "We will continue our mission to inform the people of this state that reform begins with redistricting, and we will support the Governor's efforts to appeal this egregious e·gre·gious adj. Conspicuously bad or offensive. See Synonyms at flagrant. [From Latin decision. I call on both Republican and Democratic office holders and candidates to speak out loudly on this issue and let us know where they stand." |
