CF Expands, Centralizes Mexico Division Operations.


SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 1999--Consolidated Freightways (CF) has expanded and centralized its Mexico division, which gives shippers faster, efficient LTL LTL - Linear Temporal Logic  transportation, as well as additional expedited options to all major markets in Mexico.

Effective immediately, CF Mexico assumes operations of four strategic terminals along the border, and places its Mexico division management team at a headquarters terminal in San Antonio San Antonio (săn ăntō`nēō, əntōn`), city (1990 pop. 935,933), seat of Bexar co., S central Tex., at the source of the San Antonio River; inc. 1837. .

"More important to shippers is that CF can now guarantee more expedited and air services throughout all of Mexico."

CF's Mexico division now operates border gateways at Chula Vista Chula Vista (ch`lə), city (1990 pop. 135,163), San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1911.  and Calexico, Calif., Douglas and Nogales Nogales (nōgä`lās), city (1990 pop. 19,489), Santa Cruz co., S Ariz. on the Mexican border with its adjacent city, Nogales (1990 pop. 105,873), Sonora, NW Mexico. There are copper, silver, and lead mines. , Ariz. All four operations were part of CF's U.S. division. Terminals in El Paso El Paso (ĕl pă`sō), city (1990 pop. 515,342), seat of El Paso co., extreme W Tex., on the Rio Grande opposite Juárez, Mex.; inc. 1873. , Laredo, McAllen and Brownsville, Texas Brownsville is the county seat of Cameron County, Texas, United States, the southernmost city in Texas. As of 2005, U.S. Census estimates put Brownsville at a population of 167,493.  also fall within the Mexico division.

"Our border terminals in California and Arizona are major gateways to industrial and manufacturing centers south of the border, so it's logical they are part of our Mexico division," Hickert explains. "San Antonio is a thriving business and financial center, is strategically located along the I-35 corridor The I-35 Corridor is a megalopolis in the southern plains region of the United States. It runs from San Antonio, Texas to Kansas City, Missouri along Interstate 35. The corridor includes the cities of Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Wichita. , and close to our client base throughout Mexico."

David Valdez has been named sales manager of CF's Mexico division. Based in San Antonio, Valdez is responsible for a sales team that operates on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

The expansion of the CF division is the latest in a series of enhancements the company has initiated to meet increasing shipper demands for better service to and from Mexico.

CF's Mexico division now operates sixteen terminals total -- nine in the U.S. and seven in Mexico connecting shippers to more than 50 locations south of the border.
