Inc. announced today the formation of a strategic partnership in response to the accelerating convergence of technologies flowing through the retail channel. As part of this new initiative, Spring CES and COMDEX/Spring '97 will co-locate beginning in Atlanta, Ga., June 2-5, 1997. The two organizations also announced the creation of a new trade show and conference specifically developed to address the convergent marketplace. This newly announced venture, yet to be named, will be held alongside the combined Spring event beginning in Atlanta, June 2-5, 1997. CES and COMDEX The former, premier computer trade show in the U.S. Although it grew into an end user event, it was originally created for dealers and distributors (it was the COMputer Dealers EXposition). will each continue to market and sell their respective events while the new trade show and conference will be marketed and sold jointly by both organizations. SOFTBANK COMDEX will handle the operational aspects for all three events. In making this announcement, CEMA president Gary Shapiro declared, "Today we launch a mega-event. Two of the industry's major trade shows will be held simultaneously and a third new show is being created. As the crossover between the consumer electronics and computer industries has increasingly grown -- so the industry's need for one consolidated Spring event which will serve both industries."
