CERN Chooses Axeda For Remote Monitoring of Vital Particle Accelerator Components via the Web.

Axeda Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: XEDA), a provider of Device Relationship Management (DRM) software and services, announced today that CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) is using Axeda DRM(TM) technology to monitor vital building automation and water treatment functions within underground particle accelerators at the CERN facility in Switzerland. The installation is the result of a five-year working relationship between Axeda and CERN ST/CV (technical support /cooling and ventilation) department to provide the best networked monitoring solution.

"The integrated solution has enabled almost 80 members of the cooling and ventilation staff to regularly access technical information such as ventilation and cooling parameters from any computer at our facility using a simple Web navigator."

At CERN, underground installations of particle accelerators stretch great distances with `wells' adjoining them. These wells allow the underground installations to receive air, water, heat, cold and power for the survival of the teams conducting experiments and to power the equipment they use. The Axeda Supervisor(TM), a component of the Axeda Device Relationship Management System, is being used to enable the real-time, secure monitoring and automation of a number of wells by allowing the access and processing of nearly 400,000 parameters. The Axeda Supervisor also monitors 13 cooling stations of the Super Proton Synchrotron accelerator, 11 cooling stations of the Proton Synchrotron accelerator included the TOF (Time of Flight) experiment cooling station.
