Construction won't begin until 2000 at the earliest, but supporters of a veterans home in Lancaster plan to hold a dedication ceremony Monday to keep the project fresh in the public's mind.

Saying that 2000 is ``just around the next corner,'' city officials and members of the Lancaster Veterans Home Citizens Committee are inviting the public to drop by the site at Avenue I and 30th Street West for the 4 p.m. ceremony.

The city is offering 22 acres on the northwest corner of the intersection intersection /in·ter·sec·tion/ (-sek´shun) a site at which one structure crosses another.

The Chula Vista home is projected to be completed in February 2000. Construction of the Lancaster home could begin in late 2000, Adams said.

The state also has allocated $12 million for the Lancaster site. Construction of the home is contingent upon Adj. 1. contingent upon - determined by conditions or circumstances that follow; "arms sales contingent on the approval of congress"

The state has two veterans homes operating now - one in Yountville in Napa County that houses 1,125 veterans and another in Barstow. The Barstow home, which opened last year, has 247 occupants but room for 400.
