CEOs of Visa USA and Shorenstein Co. to Discuss San Francisco's Growth Issues At San Francisco Business Times Breakfast.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 12, 2000

Visa USA president and chief executive Carl Pascarella, and Douglas Shorenstein, chairman and chief executive officer of the Shorenstein Co., will be featured speakers at a special San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  Business Times breakfast forum July 20 on the growth challenges facing San Francisco amid the prosperity of the new economy.

 economy and a four-year building bonanza in San Francisco. But this year's building boom was brought to a screeching halt as development hit a limit imposed by Proposition M, the voter-approved cap on new office development. Issues stemming from the city's explosive growth also will be examined, including parking and traffic problems, meteorically rising rents and a shortage of available housing.

Other prominent speakers at the San Francisco Business Times breakfast will be Kent Sims, economist and author of the report on the San Francisco economy by the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR); Howard Wexler, land-use attorney at Farella Braun + Martel LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol ; Mara Brazer, managing partner at the San Francisco Partnership; and Daniel W. Winey, AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture , vice president and managing partner at Gensler.

Visa recently announced that the card association is moving its headquarters to downtown San Francisco from suburban Foster City.

San Francisco-based Shorenstein Co. owns approximately 8 million square feet of commercial space in San Francisco and Oakland, making it the region's biggest owner of downtown real estate.

Shorenstein, Pascarella and the other speakers will discuss smart growth and what it will take to continue San Francisco's wave of economic prosperity.
