Century will gain approximately 177,000 pops (the portion of the population of the service area based on ownership interest), bringing its total pops to nearly 8.3 million. As a result of the transaction, Century will be named the operator of the RSA and will gain an additional 76 percent interest in the Wisconsin RSA 8 L.P., bringing its total ownership interest to 80 percent. This acquisition, combined with Century's pending acquisition of Pacific Telecom, Inc. (PTI PTI - Portable Tool Interface ), will bring Century's total cellular pops to more than 10 million. Located in the southwestern corner of the state, the RSA is contiguous to Century's La Crosse La Crosse (lə krôs), city (1990 pop. 51,003), seat of La Crosse co., W Wis., at the foot of high bluffs on the Mississippi, where the La Crosse and Black rivers meet; inc. 1856. , Wis., cellular operations and to PTI's operated Wisconsin RSAs 6 and 7. Wisconsin RSA 8 serves a population of approximately 235,000 and comprises eight counties. Wisconsin RSA 8 is the third most populated of the 10 Wisconsin RSAs. There are 26 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) and 22 RSAs within a 200-mile radius of Wisconsin RSA 8, which also ranks second among all Wisconsin RSAs in projected retail sales growth for 1994 through 1999. There are 144 manufacturers located in the RSA, as well as major agricultural operations and tourist destinations. The market ranks second among the Wisconsin RSAs in commuter travel time, which should provide good roaming revenue opportunities. Consummation of the transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.
