CENTURA COMPLETES MERGERS IN CHARLOTTE, LUMBERTON, CANTON

 ROCKY MOUNT, N.C., Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Centura Banks Inc. (NYSE: CBC) announced today it has completed mergers with First Charlotte Financial Corp., Robeson Savings Bank in Lumberton and Canton Savings Bank in Canton, N.C. Offices of all three institutions will open as Centura Bank branches Tuesday, Jan. 4.
 With the mergers, Centura adds five offices in the Charlotte area, four in or near Lumberton and two in or near Canton.
 Customers from Robeson Savings and Canton Savings will be converted onto the Centura systems and receive their new account information during January. The conversion of First Charlotte customers is complete.
 During 1993, Centura completed mergers with First Savings Bank of Forest City, Brevard Federal Savings in Brevard, First American Savings Bank and Granite Savings Bank in Granite Falls, N.C. Centura now has 156 full-service offices in 91 N.C. communities.
