CENTER SET UP TO HELP COUNTY STORM VICTIMS.

A new center has been set up in Ventura County to help homeowners, renters and business owners who suffered losses from the storms Dec. 27 through Jan. 11 apply for federal and state assistance.

A Disaster Recovery Center opened Thursday at the Oak View Community Park and Resource Center at 555 Mahoney Ave. in Oak View and will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week, officials said.

People may register by filling out applications online at FEMA's Web site http://www.fema.gov.

Ventura County residents affected by the disaster may be eligible for grants to pay for temporary housing, emergency home repairs and other serious disaster-related expenses.

The Small Business Administration can provide low-interest loans to cover losses not fully covered by insurance.

People who lost jobs because of the disaster could receive unemployment benefits for up to 26 weeks.
