CENSUS LETTER PRECEDES FORMS TO COME MID-MONTH.

A first round of mailings recently hit mailboxes that asks residents in which of six languages they want their actual census forms: English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean or Tagalog.  offers assistance in 30 other languages as well, census officials said.

The actual census forms will be mailed in mid-month and all residents, whether U.S. citizens or not, are required to mail them back by April 1.

Five out of six recipients will receive the short version of the census form which can be filled out in 10 minutes. Every sixth household will get a long form, which should take 35 to 40 minutes to complete.

For those with access to the Internet, census information can be filled out by logging into the Bureau of the Census Noun 1. Census officials said they expect more than half the forms will be returned.

Enumerators go house to house, counting the uncounted, Fontana said, and the Census Bureau is counting on hiring more people to do the job.
