, the Pierce Brothers cemetery plans to do on-site cremations again.

The old Valley Oaks Memorial Park crematory was located on Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964.  in 1993 after the cemetery wanted it moved onto its own property.

In the interim, remains have been cremated at other Pierce Brothers facilities in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , said Larry Michael, Pierce Brothers general manager.

The city previously approved Valley Oaks' plans to build a new crematory and maintenance shop, but the owners discovered that the location does not have the utilities to support the new facilities, said Bob Theobald, the city's planning director.

``The council approved the same facility at a different location,'' Theobald said.

At the council meeting tonight, Pierce Brothers will ask the council to approve its modified plans for the same structures in a new section of the site. The buildings will be tucked into the northeast corner of the 40.13-acre park - a few hundred yards east of the previously planned location.

``We don't want it sticking out Adj. 1. sticking out - extending out above or beyond a surface or boundary; "the jutting limb of a tree"; "massive projected buttresses"; "his protruding ribs"; "a pile of boards sticking over the end of his truck"  there on the front of the property,'' Michael said.

The plans also call for a 1,200-square-foot facility to be built around the crematory, he said. The building will provide a type of sitting room, where family members can spend a final few moments with the deceased before their remains are reduced to ashes To Ashes is the very first release from metal band, Shadows Fall. , Michael said.

``This will allow them to be there, directly in the same building,'' he said.

The park also will construct a 3,314-square-foot maintenance shop with garage stalls to replace its temporary maintenance facility, Michael said. The new garage will provide housing and repair space for the park's trucks, tractors and lawn movers, he said. Future plans include expansion of the mortuary mor·tu·ar·y

and chapel facilities. Michael expects the buildings to be completed in January.

The City Council plans to meet at 7:30 tonight at 4373 Park Terrace Drive.
