Hoops boss Tony Mowbray has sent scouts to watch the Derry City midfielder who has also attracted attention from Coventry and Ipswich Town.

But Blackburn seem to be Celtic's biggest rivals as McCauley, 17, has already been on trial at Ewood Park.

Derry boss Stephen Kenny said: "We have offered Darren a pro contract but he wants to play across the water."

Derry and McCauley's old club Top of the Hill Celtic will receive compensation when he leaves.
