New York dealt second-year forwards Walter McCarty Walter Lee McCarty (born February 1, 1974) is an American basketball player who has played for the NBA's New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, and the Los Angeles Clippers. He normally plays power forward, but has played all positions except point guard.  and Dontae' Jones, rookie John Thomas and veteran Scott Brooks to the Celtics. The Knicks also received two second-round draft picks.

The trade was surprising on both sides but especially so for the Celtics, who signed Mills just two months ago to a seven-year, $33.6 million contract after he left the Cleveland Cavaliers as a free agent.

McCarty will be the third member of the Celtics' current roster - the others are Antoine Walker and Ron Mercer - to have played for coach Rick Pitino at Kentucky.
