CELOXICA Extends C-based Design Support to new Xilinx 90nm Spartan-3 FPGAs; The DK Design Suite enables Software-Compiled System Design for latest Platform FPGA devices.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

ABINGDON, United Kingdom--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 2003

Celoxica Limited today announced support for the new 90nm Spartan-3(TM) FPGAs from Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq:XLNX). The Celoxica DK Design Suite, the premier design tool for software-compiled system design, provides designers with a C-based language design environment for platform FPGAs. Using the Celoxica tools, designers can partition A reserved part of disk or memory that is set aside for some purpose. On a PC, new hard disks must be partitioned before they can be formatted for the operating system, and the Fdisk utility is used for this task.  designs between hardware and software, seamlessly verify the system using higher-level languages, and directly synthesize To create a whole or complete unit from parts or components. See synthesis.  from C-based models to Spartan-3 devices. By combining the Celoxica DK Design Suite with platform FPGAs such as Spartan-3, designers can access the fastest path to implementation of high-density, low-cost programmable systems including millions of gates and soft processor cores such as MicroBlaze(TM) from Xilinx.

"The software-compiled system design methodology enables the design of high-performance programmable systems. The DK Design Suite with Spartan-3 support represents the most advanced platform FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market.  design solution targeting high density, low-cost platform FPGA technology," said Jeff Jussel, vice president of marketing at Celoxica Limited. "For designers using Spartan-3 devices, especially those embedding 1. 2. (theory) embedding - (domain theory) A complete partial order F in [X -> Y] is an embedding if
MicroBlaze processors, this C-based flow will achieve the best possible design performance in the shortest time."

"Celoxica has been an AllianceEDA member for many years and has provided a great service for Xilinx customers," stated Jerry Banks, director of partnerships and alliance marketing at Xilinx. "For designers starting at a higher levels of abstraction, Celoxica's tools produce high Quality of Design in a significantly reduced time frame. Their software-compiled system design methodology also opens Spartan-3 usage to a whole new class of customers."

The DK Design Suite provides the fastest route to design realization for platform FPGA devices. The Celoxica methodology employs higher-level languages such as C, C++, System-C and Handel-C to raise design abstraction, allowing designers to represent complex designs in shorter descriptions. The use of a common language allows easy movement of design functionality between hardware and software implementations to find the optimal design partition. The DK Design Suite also provides cycle-accurate simulation of C-based models and provides co-simulation with popular RTL (Register Transfer Level) A high-level hardware description language (HDL) for defining digital circuits. The circuits are described as a collection of registers, Boolean equations, control logic such as "if-then-else" statements as well as complex event sequences;  simulators and models developed in the Matlab/Simulink environment. Spartan-3 designers can achieve high Quality of Design (QoD) using the DK Design Suite's unique C-based synthesis technology to directly compile high-level models to optimized EDIF EDIF - Electronic Design Interchange Format.

Not a programming language, but a format to simplify data transfer between CAD/CAE systems. LISP-like syntax. See also Berkeley EDIF200.

Spartan-3 Platform FPGAs

Ranging from 50K to 5M system gates, the 90nm Spartan-3 platform is the world's lowest-cost FPGA with unrivaled price points to address customer demand for low-cost solutions. With Spartan-3, Xilinx is poised to address entirely new high-volume applications in the "sweet spot" of mid-range ASICs -- such as low cost routers, storage servers, medical and industrial imaging, and residential gateways - to significantly expand the total available market for the Spartan Series.
