CELLULAR ONE PRESENTS SEATTLE CITY SCHOOLS
WITH $100,000 FOR FUND FOR EXCELLENCE
SEATTLE, Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Cellular One of Western Washington reported that $50,000 was raised from the Tony Bennett, Cleo Laine, Seattle Symphony concert Sunday night. More than 2,000 people attended the concert along the Seattle waterfront and saw Craig McCaw, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of McCaw Cellular Communications (NASDAQ: MCAWA), present the school district with a check for $50,000 along with a matching contribution of $50,000 from the McCaw Family Foundation, for a total of $100,000.
The Seattle City School's Fund for Excellence is a private fund- raising program charged with developing non-traditional ways of raising funds for Seattle Public Schools. The Cellular One donation will go mainly to fund math and science programs.
"In light of the funding problems and program cuts our public schools are going through, we felt this additional donation was necessary to establish a strong program," said McCaw. "Our hope is that the money raised through this concert and the additional help we are providing will help establish science and technology programs that will further the talents of the students we have in our public schools," he said.
"This fund-raising event is part of our ongoing commitment and partnership to help the quality of living in the communities we serve," said Robert H. Johnson, general manager of Cellular One of Western Washington. "We are committed to providing the same support to the school district next year because the quality of the education our school children receive is critical to the future of the quality of life we all enjoy here in the Pacific Northwest," said Johnson.
McCaw Cellular Communications is the leading provider of cellular airtime services in the United States. Its wholly owned affiliate, Cellular One, is the leading provider of cellular services in the Pacific Northwest.
