CELEBRATING COVENTRY'S 'SECRET SERVICE' DURING NATIONAL CARERS' WEEK; ADVERTISEMENT FEATURE: Many carers don't recognise or define themselves as carers, and they may miss out on the help and support that is available.Caring roles can impact on many areas of carers' lives, including employment, relationships and social networks. Carers' Week (June 8-14) here in Coventry highlights and celebrates the incredible contribution that carers make, sharing the positive experiences as well as the more difficult. S The week starts off a range of events by local organisations in partnership with Coventry City Council that will run throughout the year. Highlights of the week in Coventry will include: a football tournament for children and young people; information and advice stands from Coventry's Carers' Centre, Crossroads, Age Concern Coventry and others; Alzheimer's Society barbecue; Carers' Centre Picnic in the Park; the Mental Health Carers' Break Scheme canal boat to Birmingham and the botanical gardens; and a trip to Arley Arboretum arboretum: see botanical garden. arboretum Place where trees, shrubs, and sometimes herbaceous plants are cultivated for scientific and educational purposes. An arboretum may be a collection in its own right or a part of a botanical garden. . Are you caring for somebody with a health problem? Then this is probably just the ticket for you - Looking After Me, a FREE course for carers.. It covers: - How to cope with difficult emotions. - Ways to cope and relax. - Meeting other carers in the group and sharing problems and ideas together. - Handling feelings of depression and anxiety. - How to keep healthy and fit. - Building confidence and positive action planning. The course is free of charge and runs for six weekly sessions of two and a half hours each week. Refreshments will be provided during the course.
