CELEBRATING A KING PERFORMANCES TO PAY TRIBUTE WITH SONGS, DANCE, ESSAYS.

PALMDALE - Celebrations of the life of civil-rights leader the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. are planned in Palmdale and Lancaster.

Lancaster's 16th annual King celebration will feature civil-rights writer, activist and filmmaker Constance Curry, local gospel music group LNE LNE Laboratoire National d’Essais (Paris, France)

 and opera singer James Sterrett Bryant, as well as readings by third- through 12th-graders of local prize-winning essays on King's life and philosophy.

She produced a documentary film ``The Intolerable Burden'' based on her book ``Silver Rights.''

The Lancaster event is set for 4 p.m. Sunday at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre. , 750 W. In Palmdale, the Los Angeles-based Lula Washington Youth Dance Ensemble A group of dancers preforming under a common name: the dance equivalent of a band. Examples would be Riverdance and Shuvani.  will perform a Martin Luther King Jr. Day program at 5 p.m. at the Palmdale Playhouse, 38334 10th St. E. Admission is free.

Twenty dancers aged 10 to 17 will be performing a program of gospel, African and modern dance at the Palmdale event. African-drum players will provide live music.
