A Pops orchestra is an orchestra that plays popular music and show tunes as well as well-known classical works.
 will perform its second annual New Year's Eve ``Night in Vienna'' concert at the 1,800-seat Charles E. Probst Center. From light classics to Strauss waltzes and polkas, the 8 p.m. performance will feature traditional music from the world-famous New Year's concert performed in Vienna, Austria.

``We try to follow the music they've done over the years,'' said Elmer Ramsey, the orchestra's music director and conductor.

``It's aimed at a lot of people that don't go out at all,'' he said.

Next door in the 400-seat Forum Theater at the Civic Arts Plaza, the Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  Mass Choir, Praise Dancers and Drama Team will begin their performance at 8:30 p.m. and continue past midnight into the new year.

The third Gospel Night sponsored by the group will feature singers, choirs and dancing groups from around the country, including gospel artists Rozlyn Sorrell, Minister Beau Williams, the K&K Mime Ministry and comedian Alice Arthur.

``This is for anyone in the community who for years said they had no place to go and stayed home to pray on New Year's,'' said Sharon Brown Sharon Brown is Miss USA 1961.

After winning the Miss Louisiana USA crown, Brown, from Minden, Louisiana went on to become Louisiana's second representative to achieve the title of Miss USA. She also won the Miss Photogenic award.

And the Simi Valley Radisson will offer a buffet A buffet is a meal serving system where patrons serve themselves. It is a popular method of feeding large numbers of people with minimal staff. NEW YEAR'S EVE FUN

Conejo Pops Orchestra will perform ``Night In Vienna'' at the Charles E. Probst Center at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 8-10 p.m. Tickets $12-$40. Call (805) 449-ARTS.

Simi Valley Gospel Mass Choir, Praise Dancers and Drama Team will feature seven gospel artists at the Forum Theater at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza; 8:30 p.m. to midnight. Tickets $22.50 for adults, $18 for senior citizens, $12 for children under 12. Call (805) 449-ARTS.

Fiddler on the Roof will be performed by Comedy Tonight Productions at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center. Dinner at 6:30 p.m., curtain at 8 p.m. Tickets are $55 in advance, $65 at the door.

Clarion Hotel in Simi Valley. $115 per person for dinner, party and a room. Call (805) 584-6300, Ext. 305.

The Simi Valley Radisson hosts a buffet and swing band. Tickets are $160 a couple or $219 a couple for the event and a room. The hotel's sports bar also will offer a New Year's event. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. For more information and reservations, call (805) 583-2000.

The Hyatt in Westlake will have two parties. The main party costs $119 a couple, and includes a four-course gourmet dinner and 14-piece swing band. The outdoor big tent event costs $35 a person and includes a DJ, dancing and light show. For information, call (805) 497-9991.

The Westlake Village Inn event will feature a five-course dinner, wine, fortune tellers, a band and DJ. Cost is $125 a person, and reservations must be booked in person. For information, call (805) 496-1667.
