CEI TO HOST SPRING MULCH SALE

CLEVELAND, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- The Illuminating Company will pump out more than kilowatts this spring.
The company's Lake Shore Power Plant, 6800 S. Marginal Rd., Cleveland, will host the Greater Cleveland Ecology Association (GCEA) annual Bag and Bushel Mulch Sale during each Saturday in April and May. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. CEI provides nearly 8.5 acres at the plant for a leaf recycling center operated by the GCEA. More than 16,000 tons of leaves are deposited annually by local municipalities. The leaves are piled in rows 10-feet high and allowed to compost for 24- months before the GCEA sells them as garden mulch and soil conditioner.
"This mulch is 100 percent natural and is perfect for planting trees, shrubs or flower and vegetable gardens," says Mark Norton, director of GCEA.
Home gardeners can pick up mulch in their own pick-up truck, trailers, garbage cans or sturdy plastic bags for $16.50 per cubic yard or $1.25 per bushel. A front-end loader will be available to fill pick- up trucks and trailers. Smaller quantities will be hand shoveled.
The entrance for the sale is off East 55th St., south of the shoreway between South Marginal Road and the railroad bridge. Look for signs reading, "The Cleveland Composting Site."
