CEI PROGRAM ENCOURAGES CHILDREN TO 'LEARNELECTRIC' DURING SUMMER

CLEVELAND, July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- School's out for the summer, but the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company (CEI) is providing opportunities for children to learn even during their summer vacation -- "LearnElectric" that is.
CEI kicks off the first of a dozen "LearnElectric" programs today. The electrical safety seminars are scheduled at various Northeast Ohio locations throughout the month.
The electrical safety program features "Electri-City," a replica of a small city, and Sparky, CEI's neon safety mascot. As Sparky travels through "Electri-City," children learn about the dangers of downed power lines, flying kites near power lines and playing near substations. Because the display is "live," children can see what happens to Sparky when he comes in contact with electricity.
"Teaching our children how to stay safe around electricity is extremely important," said Tanzie Adams, CEI's community affairs manager. "LearnElectric is a small investment in time, yet pays big benefits to our participants for years to come."
In addition, children will be taught energy-saving tips they can take home to their parents to help trim monthly electric bills. Each child also takes home a "Be Safe With Electri-City" coloring poster.
The one-hour program is geared for children ages 7 to 11 and is fun, informative and free.
