DVD is an emerging industry standard for high quality, digital video and has been the "talk of the town" for the next wave of consumer products. The DVD standard includes MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs). 2 digital video and Dolby Digital AC-3 sound.

Over the last six months, CEI has been working in collaboration with major DVD drive manufacturers to ensure DVD compatibility and also to provide a total drive, decoder solution for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  accounts. CEI offering is unique in its DVD browser application and emphasis on both digital and analog copy protection.

CEI's DVD-CY is an all hardware decode solution which provides the highest quality MPEG2 video decode and is backward compatible to MPEG1 audio/video bit streams. It has a digital Dolby AC-3 stereo audio decoder to provide uncompromising theater surround sound. Output video display can be on a PC monitor or direct to a consumer TV set.

CEI's DVD-SW is a hardware/software hybrid decode solution. DVD MPEG2 video is decoded via hardware while the digital Dolby AC-3 stereo is decoded via software only. OEM volume price is below $175 per unit. Samples will be available in January 1997.

CEI's unique DVD browser software, PrimeTime View, provides a full feature PC-based DVD application. In addition to its intuitive graphical user interface, the PrimeTime View software has navigation controls for interactive DVD titles and other DVD features such as multi-languages and sub-pictures menu. It is fully compliant with Microsoft's ActiveMovie environment and a special MCI (1) (Media Control Interface) A high-level programming interface from Microsoft and IBM for controlling multimedia devices. It provides commands and functions to open, play and close the device.
