CEI CUSTOMERS SET ELECTRICITY USAGE RECORD

 CLEVELAND, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Today's high humidity and hot weather prompted CEI customers to use more electricity to keep cool than any other previous day since the summer of 1991.
 From 2 to 3 p.m. today, CEI customers used 3,862,000 kilowatthours of electricity to establish the new mark.
 CEI's all-time peak demand record of 4,067,000 kilowatthours of electricity was set on Aug. 17, 1988. CEI serves 750,000 customers in a 1,700-square-mile area encompassing Cleveland-Northeast Ohio.
 Centerior Energy (NYSE: CX), parent company of CEI and Toledo Edison, also set a two-year usage record today with 5,344,000 kilowatthours.
