CEDAR STREET STAGING FREE OLD-TIME RADIO SHOWS 'WAR OF THE WORLDS' AMONG CLASSICS TO BE RE-ENACTED.


LANCASTER - Cedar Street Theatre will open its 24th season Sept. 14-16, with free re-enactments of three old-time radio This article or section may deal primarily with the U.S. and may not present a worldwide view.  shows.

``The Radio Hour'' will be presented at 8 p.m. Sept. 14 and 15 and at 2 p.m. Sept. 15 and 16 at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre. , 750 W. The cast for the re-creation includes Barbara Coates as Baby Snooks, Richard Herron as Daddy, and Candace Craven as Mommy. Trisha Guest will be heard as Phoebe, with Patricia Paige as Mrs. Wilcox. It is directed by Margaret Berry.

In the original ``Life of Riley,'' William Bendix portrayed Chester A. Riley, a riveter in a California aircraft plant, in a radio show broadcast from 1943-49. A movie based on the character was released in 1949, and a television revival of the show aired from 1953-58.

The Cedar Street Theatre production features Philip Raneri in the title role, Peg Riley is played by Edie Flaming and Jake Flaming plays Junior Riley. Directed by David Negaard, the comedy also features Velda Lumpking, Richard Herron, Bill Armstrong Bill Armstrong (born June 25, 1966 in London, Ontario) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played in one NHL game for the Philadelphia Flyers during the 1990-91 NHL season and spent the rest of his professional career in the AHL and IHL.  and Eric Ilten.

The local production will feature Raymond Cunneff as Professor Pierson. Others in the large cast include Claud Seal, William Smith, Dale Dawe and Patricia Paige. The show is directed by Fred Stephan.

Cedar Street Theatre Inc. is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that is self-supporting through the sale of program advertisements, ticket sales, and grants from organizations such as the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, The Boeing Co. and the Lancaster Performing Arts Center Foundation. Community members are encouraged to audition and participate in all technical aspects of the productions.
