CEDAR FAIR, L.P. DECLARES 8.1 PERCENT INCREASE IN QUARTERLY CASH DISTRIBUTION

SANDUSKY, Ohio, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Fair, L.P. (NYSE: FUN), a publicly traded partnership that operates three amusement/theme parks, today declared an 8.1 percent increase in its quarterly cash distribution to $0.50 from $0.4625 per limited partner unit, payable Nov. 13, 1993, to holders of record Oct. 7. This distribution reflects an increase in the annualized distribution rate to $2.00 per unit, compared with the $1.85 rate maintained over the past four quarters, and is the 26th consecutive quarterly distribution declared by the Partnership.
Richard L. Kinzel, president and chief executive officer, explained that although the Partnership's seasonal operations will continue for three more weekends, combined 1993 attendance is expected to total approximately 5.5 million, up 14 percent from the previous year. Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, included in Partnership operations since its acquisition in July 1992, accounted for most of the attendance increase for the 1993 season.
"Combined attendance at the Partnership's original two parks is expected to be level, or slightly up, compared with last year, which is remarkable given the prolonged rain and flooding that adversely impacted attendance at our Minnesota park," said Kinzel. "We are extremely pleased that Cedar Point was able to more than offset Valleyfair's attendance shortfall by achieving a record attendance year, likely breaking the 1989 record by more than three percent. Nearly perfect weather throughout the peak vacation months of July and August, together with the successful debut of Snake River Falls, contributed to Cedar Point's record performance. Consolidated net income and operating cash flow for 1993 are expected to exceed last year's record levels and we are optimistic about the prospects for 1994. On that basis, the board of directors determined that the increase in cash distributions was appropriate."
The Partnership recently announced a $21 million capital investment program for the 1994 season, including another world-record roller coaster at Cedar Point and family-oriented attractions at its other two parks.
Cedar Fair's three seasonal amusement/theme parks are Cedar Point, located on Lake Erie between Cleveland and Toledo; Valleyfair near Minneapolis-St. Paul; and Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom near Allentown, Pa.
