CEA Applauds White House Intervention in West Coast Port Dispute.

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 2002

The following statement was issued today by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) President and CEO Gary Shapiro regarding this morning's announcement that President Bush has appointed a fact-finding board of inquiry on the continued shutdown of West Coast ports:

"We warmly welcome President Bush's intervention in the ongoing West Coast port closure dispute. As we have said, the port lockouts are having an adverse impact on the technology industry at a time when the industry - and the national economy - can least afford such disruptions.

"We strongly support the President's action and encourage him to continue to monitor the situation closely and use all authority available to him to bring this dispute to a close as quickly as possible. We also call upon the Congress to support the President's efforts and we urge the parties to resolve their differences as soon as possible and re-open the ports. We offer our full support and assistance to reach this end."
