CEA Announces New Working Group to Reevaluate Audio Amplifier Standards; Welcomes Broad Participation in R3 WG8 to Revise CEA-490-A.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Consumer Electronics Association's (CEA) Audio Systems Committee announced a new working group to review CEA-490-A, Standard Methods of Measurement for Audio Amplifiers, which discusses how to test and measure audio amplifiers. Originally created by the Video Systems Committee in December 2001, the new working group will be updating the standard for 2005 to incorporate requirements for home-theater-in-a-box systems and audio amplifiers that are incorporated into TV sets.

"The standard needs to be modernized in order to include the current progression of audio equipment and we're looking for broad and active involvement in the standards updating process," CEA Technology and Standards Manager Megan Hayes said. "The group will be able to incorporate the newest types of audio products, such as home-theater-in-a-box, in order to keep the standard relevant."

The working group is co-chaired by Ray Pace, sustaining engineer, Altec Lansing and John Merrell, project concept and development manager, TTE and includes members of various audio companies. Membership in the new working group is open to companies and organizations with direct and material interest in the activities of the working group. CEA membership is not required to participate.
