CDX Gas to Organize Coal Bed Methane Degasification Demonstration Symposium.

WASHINGTON -- CDX Gas, LLC (CDX) announced today that it will co-chair, along with the International Center for Sustainable Development and others to be determined, a task force to organize the first symposium demonstrating successful technologies for coal mine degasification to take place following The Methane to Markets Partnership Ministerial.

This symposium, which will take place in the first quarter of 2005, will highlight the successful technologies developed and used by CDX Gas for coal mine degasification in West Virginia. Participants will include members of The Partnership, environmental and energy ministers, other officials, and private sector delegates who attended the International Methane to Markets Partnership launch meeting.

The Partnership was launched at Ministerial Meetings held in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 15 - 17, 2004. Participants included environmental and energy ministers, delegates and observers from countries with large methane emission sources. At the meeting, the United States and 13 other countries signed an agreement to work together to capture emissions of methane from coal mines, landfills, and oil and gas operations. The goal is to capture fifty million tons of clean-burning methane a year by 2015 and sell it for energy.

The demonstration symposium will be an important next step in addressing delivery of significant energy, safety, and environmental benefits through recovery and use of methane while reducing global greenhouse gas emissions.

The two-day event hosted by CDX Gas will include briefings on the latest technologies used for coal mine degasification, as well as a field trip to the drilling and production sites. The CDX Gas Pinnacle Project in West Virginia is a successful degasification of a substantial mining area that captures millions of tons of methane gas and delivers it via pipelines to power plants, industry, and retail consumers. Partnership participants will have the opportunity to learn more about CDX's proprietary Z-Pinnate Horizontal Drilling and Completion System(TM) that was initially developed to assist in draining gas in advance of coal mine operations.

Known for its small footprint, CDX's technology is environmentally friendly because it can cover up to 1,200 acres from one drilling site. Additionally, some studies estimate that the environmental impact of the CDX Wyoming County, West Virginia degasification project equates to taking more than 500,000 cars off the road daily.

Additionally, since the West Virginia project was initiated, the degasified coal mine has not experienced any significant loss of production due to methane gas problems. This has dramatically improved the productivity of the mine, as well as mine safety, because up to 95 percent of the gas has been removed before mining begins.

At the symposium, CDX will demonstrate how existing technology can be used on a large scale to serve the goals of the Methane to Markets Partnership to capture large amounts of methane in an environmentally sustainable method and convert it to a clean energy source.
