CDW-G to Offer Federal Government Customers Access to Fastest National Wireless Data Network with AT&T Wireless.


HERNDON, Va. -- CDW CDW - data warehouse  Government, Inc. (CDW-G CDW-G CDW - Government (formerly Computer Discount Warehouse - Government) ), the government and education subsidiary of CDW Corporation (Nasdaq:CDWC CDWC Computer Discount Warehouse (stock symbol) ), today announced it has signed a Data Solutions Provider agreement with AT&T Wireless to stock, sell and activate data devices enabled for AT&T Wireless' GSM-based wireless data network.

These devices include the popular Research In Motion (RIM) BlackBerry(R) Wireless Handheld devices enabled for AT&T Wireless' nationwide GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations.  network and wireless modem A modem and antenna that transmits and receives over the air. Wireless modems support several technologies, including 802.11, Bluetooth, CDPD, DataTAC, Mobitex and Ricochet. There are wireless modems for laptops, handhelds and cellphones.  cards enabled for use with its high-speed EDGE service, the fastest national wireless data network in the U.S.

The BlackBerry devices can be bundled with Common Access Cards (CAC See Consumer Advisory Council. ) readers, providing users from public sector agencies with a secure email solution conforming to federal, state and local governments' standards. The products also are available to commercial organizations via CDW-G's parent company, CDW.

CDW-G will offer unlimited, annual domestic billing on the AT&T Wireless BlackBerry, Palm, and EDGE AirCard products. The unlimited, annual plans are available for voice and data. CDW-G will serve as the single point of contact for hardware, software and airtime services. CDW-G government customers who use EDGE will be able to take more of their office with them when they are on the go, even when abroad. EDGE will give them access to greater amounts of mission critical information commonly stored on high bandwidth applications and in large databases.

"Traditionally, users of mobile devices have had limitations on the types of data and the amounts of information they are able to access due to connection speeds and service availability," said Max Peterson, vice president, federal sales for CDW-G. "By making AT&T Wireless' high-speed data services available to our customers, we are giving them an opportunity to be even more productive and responsive when they are out in the field."

On average, EDGE is more than three times faster than traditional 56k dial-up, and is available in 7,500 cities and towns across the country and along 30,000 miles of interstate highways. In addition, when using the recently introduced Sony-Ericsson GC-83 PC Modem Card, CDW-G government customers also will be able to access EDGE in areas of Brazil, Canada, Chile, Finland, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Puerto Rico and several other countries.

Government BlackBerry users also will be able to use their devices when traveling internationally thanks to data roaming agreements AT&T Wireless has with carriers in more than 50 countries worldwide.

CDW-G and AT&T Wireless will provide federal customers with access to the widest variety of BlackBerry devices operating on a national wireless service since AT&T Wireless offers four BlackBerry models, more than any other wireless carrier in the U.S. In addition, CDW-G will be offering the Treo(TM) 600 and Tungsten(TM) W from palmOne(TM), the Audiovox(R) PPC See Pocket PC, PowerPC and pay-per-click.
