of CDW Corporation and leading source of Information Technology (IT) solutions to governments and educators, today announced that it equipped the McCarran International Airport (serving Las Vegas and the surrounding region) with a ClearCube blade computing system to support maintenance of flight information displays throughout the airport's terminals. The ClearCube solution enables the airport to provide its passengers with more accurate, real-time departure and arrival information throughout the airport.

"McCarran is the sixth busiest airport in the country, with 46.2 million passengers passing through its terminals each year," said Jason Cabrera, technical services supervisor at McCarran International Airport. "CDW-G enabled us to identify the right solution from a number of technology options - allowing us to select exactly the right approach to upgrade the flight information system."

McCarran International Airport previously used individual computers to control flight information monitors throughout the airport. While the decentralized de·cen·tral·ize

approach met the facility's information requirements, it created resource and management challenges. Not only was it impossible to maintain environmental controls for each component, maintenance, upgrades and repairs required a visit to each individual station.

The ClearClube solution provided by CDW-G centralizes the airport's flight information display system, providing staff with direct and consistent control over the supporting infrastructure. Deploying information to individual monitors throughout the facility is now as simple as mouse-clicks and keystrokes on a single workstation.

"Maintenance on the previous system was time consuming and dangerous," said David Bourgon, manager of McCarran's Airport IT Services. "Every time there was a problem, we had to go up on a lift and physically repair it. CDW-G worked with us to design a solution that not only met our computing needs, but also improves passenger service."

In addition to the management and repair efficiencies, the ClearCube solution also improves system continuity and failover response for the flight information system. Prior to the blade approach, a workstation issue might take flight information down in a section of the facility. Now, should a blade require attention, IT staff can simply remove it from the closet with the remaining blades taking the rest of the capacity.
